Fundamentals of Test Automation

In this two-part workshop with TestHuset you get a basic introduction to test automation. The workshop provides basic knowledge of how to successfully use test automation. So, if you are on a testing or development team, or in an IT product department and you want to get started working with test automation or managing a unit that will make use of test automation, then join this workshop.

More frequent releases, more agile software development, greater quality requirements. All of these contribute to making test automation essential. Fundamentals of Test Automation is a tool-independent course that gives you the introduction you need to get started with test automation.

Learning Objectives

You will gain basic knowledge of how to successfully use test automation. During the course, you will learn:

  • To understand the importance of test automation
  • To find out whether you are ready for test automation
  • To prepare before automation work begins
  • To understand the organisation of test automation, including choosing the correct profiles
  • To choose the right tools
  • To select the right tests for test automation
  • To be introduced to basic testing techniques
  • To understand how to keep test automation ‘alive’

Target Audience

This course is for everyone on a testing or development team, or in an IT product department (testers, technical testers, developers) who wants to get started working with test automation or managing a unit that will make use of test automation (Project Managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, IT Managers).

Course Overview

This course is a basic introduction to test automation. It is split into two days, during which lots of fundamental knowledge will be presented, supplemented with individual and group exercises. In the technical section, you will have an opportunity to test your skills in some of the technical portions of test automation through hands-on exercises (no prior technical knowledge expected).

Course Content

This course is a great way to get started with test automation, and you will understand what is necessary for success. It includes:

  • Eliminating the myths surrounding test automation
  • Finding out how mature your organisation is
  • Selection of the right tests for test automation
  • Test automation on several levels (component testing, integration testing, and GUI testing)
  • Finding the right skills
  • Infrastructure requirements
  • Development and continuous testing
  • Reporting and measurement
  • Knowledge of automation techniques, such as:
    • Capture and replay / record and play back
    • Keyword-driven
    • Scripting
    • Verification
    • Object recognition
    • Data-driven testing
    • Synchronisation
    • Modularisation and re-usability

About TestHuset

This two-part course will be conducted with a trainer from TestHuset A/S. TestHuset A/S is specialized in software testing and Quality Assurance. Trainer: Thomas Johannesson

Thomas Johannesson is a consultant in the team Technology & Innovation in TestHuset and has a great practical experience with technical test and testing tools in general.

He has worked with range of automation tools, throughout his career within testing and QA – Everything from QTP/UFT, Ranoex and Leapwork to API automation with SoapUI.
